Accessibility

Hartwell Estate Law is committed to making this website usable by everyone, including people who use assistive technologies.

Our commitment

We believe that everyone should be able to access information about estate planning, regardless of ability or the technology they use. We work to ensure this site is clear, navigable, and readable for all visitors.

Standards we aim to meet

This website is built to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. Those guidelines cover four principles: content should be perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust. We use these principles as a practical checklist when designing and updating the site.

What we have done

Specific steps taken to support accessibility include:

  • Semantic structure. Pages use proper HTML landmarks (header, main, nav, footer) and heading levels so screen readers can navigate the outline of each page.
  • Keyboard navigation. All interactive elements, including navigation, forms, and the FAQ accordion, are reachable and operable using only a keyboard. Focus states are visible at all times.
  • Sufficient colour contrast. Text and background colour combinations are chosen to meet or exceed the 4.5:1 contrast ratio required by WCAG 2.1 Level AA.
  • Descriptive labels. Form fields carry associated labels. Icons that convey meaning include descriptive text alternatives. Decorative images are marked so screen readers skip them.
  • Responsive layout. The site reflows cleanly at any viewport width and supports browser text-size adjustments without loss of content or function.
  • No auto-playing media. The site does not use video, audio, or animation that plays without user action.

Known limitations

We review accessibility regularly, but we may not have caught every issue. If you encounter a barrier, we want to know about it.
